After a 32-year run at managing his own agency/consulting
firm, Jim sold the business to one of Orange
County, California’s largest independent
shops in 2003. Since then, he has
turned his focus and attention to helping other
small to midsize agency principals develop deeper
strategic skills and move their agencies to the
next level—toward being more consultative,
business oriented and brand-building.
Jim is a nationally recognized brand development
specialist and frequently co-facilitates with
Tony Mikes at Second Wind seminars on business
and brand development. He is the founder
and managing director of The Brand Establishment,
a national organization providing training and
certification in brand strategy development, where
he teaches his groundbreaking brand discovery
process, “Turning the TelescopeTM.”
Jim believes that today, smaller and midsize
marketers are demanding capabilities of larger,
full-service agencies, such as sound strategic
business and brand planning, as well as new ideas,
insights and intelligence. But these businesses
cannot afford the larger agencies. So,
they turn to “smaller, smarter” shops.
“We need to be the place clients turn
to,” says Jim. “My job is to
help agencies deliver the smarter service their
clients want.”
